Faith Like Mashed Potatoes
As a child, I didn’t like mashed potatoes. I always ate my potatoes last. This meant that they were always cold.
You may like mashed potatoes. Many people do. But not many like them cold.
One day I had an idea: I’ll just scrape off my potatoes and hide them under a sofa cushion.
The Bible is right when it warns: “Be sure your sin will find you out” Numbers 32:23 for my parents found those potatoes. And when they did, I was punished. Actually, I was punished twice. I was punished once, when they found out and again, many years later, when my mother told my wife about it. Now my wife thinks it’s fun to tell everyone. So, I’m owning up to it now, before she has the chance.
But seriously, if you are not a believer, understand this: hiding our sin from God is about as useless as putting mashed potatoes under a sofa cushion.
If you are a believer, understand this: if your faith is not a priority, it’s going to get cold. If it gets cold, you will probably discard it. So, don’t let it get cold. Get into it and let it get into you. Read your Bible, pray and serve the Lord.
You will enjoy it and it will do you good. As the Bible says,
O taste and see that the LORD is good . . . .
